☀️ Summer Check-In ☀️

☀️ Summer Check-In ☀️

Summer is here, and while the snow may feel far away, now is the perfect time to make sure you're ready for next winter. A little attention to your gear and planning during the off-season can save you time, money, and headaches when the snow start flying again.

Summer Checklist: Take Care of Your Future Ski Days

🏔️ Book Your Hut Trip Before the Snow Flies

The most important thing you can do this summer for next winter is simple:

Get your hut trip on the calendar

Gather your crew, compare schedules, and lock in your dates before the season fills up. The best weekends have a way of disappearing quickly, and there's nothing better than heading into fall with a hut trip already on the books.

🔋 Don't Forget Your Transceiver

One of the most important off-season tasks is removing the batteries from your avalanche transceiver.

  • Remove all batteries before storing your beacon for the summer.

  • Check the battery compartment for any signs of corrosion or moisture.

  • Store your transceiver in a cool, dry place.

  • Install fresh batteries and perform a full function check before your first tour next season.

A few minutes of preventative maintenance today can help ensure your most important piece of safety equipment is ready when winter returns.

🎿 Give Your Skis and Skins Some Summer Love

Now is the time to put your skis or snowboard into summer storage.

  • Apply a thick summer storage wax to your skis and leave it unscraped until next season.

  • Inspect bindings and hardware for any loose screws or worn components.

  • Store climbing skins in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. This is good time to check in on your glue and see if it needs a refresh.

For what it's worth, I keep my skins in the freezer throughout the summer. While everyone has their preferred storage method, cool and dry is the key to maximizing glue life and keeping skins performing well season after season.

🧵 Handle Repairs and Warranty Claims Before Fall

Did you spend the season in around a torn jacket, a failing zipper, worn-out gloves, or a piece of gear that wasn't quite working right because you couldn't bear to be without it?

Summer is the perfect time to finally send those items in.

Many outdoor manufacturers offer excellent repair and warranty programs, and turnaround times are often much faster in the off-season than once winter arrives.

A little attention now can extend the life of your favorite gear and keep it out of the landfill.

Enjoy the Summer

Mountain bike. Hike. Climb. Camp. Swim in cold rivers. Spend time with friends and family.

Winter will be here before we know it, and we'll be ready to welcome you back to the huts when the snow starts stacking.

Cheers,

FPH Team
